Dr. Sylvain Beausoleil is a General and Bariatric Surgeon at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick, and Chief of the Department of Surgery. A Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) since 2000, he completed his bariatric surgery training at McGill University under the mentorship of Dr. Nicolas Christou in 2003.

Following his training, Dr. Beausoleil established the first provincial bariatric surgery program in the Maritimes, pioneering comprehensive care for individuals living with obesity. Since then, he has led and expanded a multidisciplinary team—including surgeons, nurses, dietitians, psychologists, and physiotherapists—dedicated to the preoperative, postoperative, and long-term management of patients undergoing bariatric surgery, as well as those experiencing weight regain.

He has been certified by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) since 2009 and continues to contribute to the advancement of bariatric care and education across Atlantic Canada. As a Clinical Professor with the Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick (CFMNB), Dr. Beausoleil plays an active role in training medical students and residents within a university hospital setting.
